DDS-CAD Viewer

The DDS Viewer is based on the powerful DDS-CAD engine and has far more functionality than “view only”. DDS' primary objective for providing this software application free of charge to the buildingSMART community and other with interest is to help increase the general awareness and understanding of the capabilities and possibilities with OpenBIM standards. buildingSMART is all about processes and the sharing of information between project team members and across diffrent software applications. The DDS Viewer can be used to gain experiences and basic understanding about OpenBIM processes and benefits of working on a daily basis with DDS-CAD commersial products and other best-of-breed buildingSMART compliant products in real life projects.

Clash detection

Several Ifc models from different diciplines (i.e Architecture, Mechanical, Ekectrical, Piping etc.) can be opened in the same window. The viewer containes a light version of the DDS clash detection engine. This limited version checks building objects towards MEP and MEP systems towards other MEP systems, but could still serve a good educational purpose.

Model enhancements

The viewer contains a few functions to help fixing some typical modelling errors that sometimes are seen in received Ifc models. This may be to specify that a piece of geometry in fact is a stair, which may be important to do rule based checking etc. Similar, the relations between objects and spaces can be changed. Properties can be changed or added in Ifc models and the result saved back to Ifc. The DDS Viewer even allready supports the new and upcoming Ifc2x4 version.

Powerful navigation functions: Zoom, pan, orbit, walk, fly, gravity, x-ray, elevator, clipping etc. Viewing: Rendering, cartoon rendering, vireframe, transparency, material mapping, perspective etc. Analyzing: Browse by spatial structure, browse by "system" structure, object properties, display objects of same type etc. Coordination: Clash detection, producing OpenBIM Collaboration Format (BCF) files and reports with issues, open and view models from multiple diciplines in the same view. Editing: Upcasting, changing object releations, adding and edit properties, multiple select edit, edit type and instance objects etc. Supported file formats: View Ifc, IfcZip, gbXML, DWG and DXF. Export Ifc, IfcZip, DWG, DXF, DWF and 3DS

Java scripts and .NET modules

The DDS viewer supports Javscript that can be used to analyse and extract information from Ifc models. There is also a .NET and a COM interface for those who wants to write small add-ons etc. (i.e. functions to classify spaces, obejcts or adding properties etc.) These is provided for students, in-house and other not-for profit users. Ifc Schema Reader

For developers and technical experts we are also providing the buildingSMART community with a free IfcSchemaReader tool. In addition to browse and analyze different versions of the Ifc schema, you can also drag&drop Ifc files at this tool for a number of anlyses. You can serch for classes, text and see different kinds of releationsships in the model etc.
